Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Eric earned his degree in Hospitality Management at Florida International University. It wasn\u2019t just about classes. It was about learning how the business works\u2014on the ground, in real time.<\/p>\n

He steadily moved up, earning leadership roles at resorts across Florida and the Caribbean. From beachfront hotels to private island retreats, Eric gained a wide-angle view of what makes a property succeed\u2014or fail.<\/p>\n

What Makes a Hotel Work? A Consultant Who\u2019s Been There<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2018, after nearly three decades in the business, Eric launched Meeuwsen Hospitality Consulting. His goal: help underperforming properties find their edge.<\/p>\n

\u201cI work best when I\u2019m in the trenches,\u201d Eric says. \u201cI\u2019m not the kind of consultant who sends over a checklist and walks away.\u201d<\/p>\n

His services range from operational audits to team training, and from food and beverage strategy to digital guest experience upgrades. He\u2019s also a go-to expert for pre-opening guidance, helping new hotels get their launch right the first time.<\/p>\n

One of his most memorable moments? \u201cHelping a boutique property in the Keys go from 30% occupancy to waitlist weekends in under a year. We didn\u2019t spend more. We just got smarter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eric doesn\u2019t pitch flashy ideas. Instead, he listens. Then he acts. \u201cIt always starts with a walkthrough,\u201d he explains. \u201cI observe the team. I talk to the guests. That\u2019s where the real insight comes from.\u201d<\/p>\n

One GM he worked with described Eric\u2019s coaching style as \u201csteady, smart, and always two steps ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n

Local Roots, Global Reach<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eric has lived in Palm Beach for more than 20 years. He and his wife, Melissa, raised their children there. Even as he\u2019s worked internationally, Florida has stayed home.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t need to be in New York or London to think big,\u201d Eric says. \u201cPalm Beach keeps me grounded. It reminds me of why we do this\u2014to serve people, not just processes.\u201d<\/p>\n

His global work has included Caribbean resorts, island getaways, and regional gems that needed new vision. But the core values haven\u2019t changed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best hotels are the ones that never forget the basics: clean rooms, warm greetings, and staff who feel supported,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

The Secret Sauce: Details, Data, and Heart<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eric is known for noticing what others miss. He points out outdated check-in processes, inefficient room layouts, and missed upsell opportunities before they hit the bottom line.<\/p>\n

He also leans into tech. \u201cDigital guest journeys are huge now,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s not just about apps. It\u2019s about how guests feel before they even arrive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, for all the strategy and systems, Eric believes the heart of hospitality is human. \u201cAt the end of the day, people remember how you made them feel,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

That belief drives his work with leadership teams. One of his favorite methods is shadowing the night staff. \u201cIt shows you what happens when no one\u2019s watching. That\u2019s where a hotel\u2019s culture really lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Life Outside the Lobby<\/strong><\/p>\n

When he\u2019s not helping hotels run better, Eric enjoys life outdoors. He\u2019s often found fishing at sunrise, cycling Palm Beach\u2019s Lake Trail, or playing tennis with friends. He\u2019s also a proud collector of vintage travel memorabilia\u2014a nod to the grand hotels that first inspired his passion.<\/p>\n

He and Melissa support environmental and youth development causes in South Florida. \u201cThis industry gave me a life,\u201d he says. \u201cThe least I can do is help build it for others.\u201d<\/p>\n

Final Word: A Leader Who Still Loves the Lobby<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eric Meeuwsen\u2019s story is about steady growth, grounded insight, and a love for the industry that\u2019s never faded. His ability to turn underwhelming hotels into standout performers has earned him respect in boardrooms and back offices alike.<\/p>\n

But ask Eric what he\u2019s proudest of, and he won\u2019t mention numbers. \u201cIt\u2019s seeing someone I trained become a GM. That\u2019s when you know you made a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
