Sometimes\u202fit involves\u202fan immediate exit from every aspect of the organisation.\u202fWhatever the circumstances and the notice period, that liminal space is\u202ffull of\u202fopportunities, many of\u202fwhich\u202fare often missed, to strengthen, or weaken,\u202fyour leadership, your\u202fteams\u202fand your organisation.<\/p>\n<p>What follows is a version of\u202fa\u202fstory\u202fwe\u2019ve\u202fheard many times. You may recognise a version of it yourself. As you read, consider the cost to individuals,\u202fteams\u202fand organisations.<\/p>\n<p>Katherine had spent four successful years as a European Sales Director in a multinational organisation. Head-hunted into the role, she exceeded targets and was well respected by both peers and her team.<\/p>\n<p>When a change in personal circumstances required her to resign, the response was swift. Her standing with the executive team\u202fpalpably\u202fshifted.\u202fHer input was no longer\u202fsought, and her departure was treated as a betrayal rather than a life decision. Her team grew anxious about what would come next, yet when Katherine tried to support them, she was told their future was no longer her concern.<\/p>\n<p>Weeks into her new role, the experience still dominated her thinking. It answers practical questions, challenges\u202fassumptions\u202fand reduces speculation.<br \/>\nThere is often\u202fcomplexity\u202finvolved in\u202fsomeone leaving and often much of this\u202fcan\u2019t\u202fbe talked about openly and publicly.
